What Can You Do When Disaster Strikes?
We know you want to feel like you are doing something to facilitate the process. We have compiled the following list of things that you can do, in order to be an active participant in your restoration project.
- Notify your insurance company. Document all phone numbers, email addresses, and claim numbers for ease of facilitation.
- Notify your friends and family. Support during this time will be great for you!
- Find a place to stay: if your home is uninhabitable, work directly with the insurance company or adjuster to find alternative living arrangements. Many times, your insurance will cover the cost of shelter for a specified period after the loss. They may also cover emergency food and clothing supplies necessary to continue your normal day-to-day schedule.
- Photo document the entire process. A photo is like a thousand words, and many times photos are essential in documenting this process, loss of personal property, and even structural elements of your home prior to the loss.
